National Public Lands Day 2012
As part of National Public Lands Day and, thanks to the folks over at the Volunteer USA Foundation, there will be a wonderful attempt to give back to the neighboring community by lending your green thumb, to perform a clean-up at the beautiful and delightful Oleta River State Park, from 8:30am to 12pm on Saturday, September 24, 2011. This park is open to the public (a small fee is charged) located at 3400 NE 163rd Street in North Miami Beach, Florida 33160. Their phone number is 305-919-1846. This park is at Biscayne Bay, as it is the largest urban park in Dade County, for this spot is an outdoor vacation for all.
This consists of a coastal litter clean-up, the removal of exotic plants and the planting of its native trees. The intent of this particular event would be to remove trash an help preserve the exotic plants. For replanting of trees would help not only to preserve the natural environment for us all, it benefits the surrounding community and wildlife.
This is a family friendly park (where minors must be accompanied by an adult) in which the work level will generally be light to moderate in nature. About 40 volunteers would be needed for this event, where collection gear for trash will be provided. Must bring some gloves, some sunscreen for protection, and a water bottle.
For registration and further details, please go to http://floridastateparks.org/oletariver/default.cfm, or contact Christine.Small@volunteerusafund.org for this and future events.
I have ventured to Oleta Park in the past, as there are wonderful trails for hiking, biking and walking, where kayak rentals are available, as one could appreciate and become fulfilled with the wonder of its scenery, a real gem.
So definitely, lend your time and hands for a great opportunity to give back. For Florida green living is a terrible thing to waste.
Peace+Godsend! :)
