All U.S. branches of Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurants will be celebrating in mega-margarita style for National Margarita Day, which takes place on Friday, February 22, 2013. Diners can expect a wide variety of margarita-related activities, specials, contests and giveaways to go along with this day that has become synonymous with the island lifestyle depicted in the songs of the mayor of Margaritaville himself, Jimmy Buffett.
As part of the celebration, Margaritaville locations will host Margaritaville University, a margarita-making class, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00. At M.U., Margaritaville bartenders will teach students how to make some of the specialty margaritas served at Margaritaville restaurants and cafes. After mastering the mixing, shaking, stirring and taste-testing, all graduates will receive their very own diploma.
Margaritaville locations will also invite guests to participate in a new tradition, the National Margarita Day Toast. At 5:00, a Master of Ceremonies will lead a toast to the official beverage of Margaritaville.
For the fourth year, Margaritaville restaurants encouraged their Facebook fans to participate in a National Margarita Recipe Contest. Mixologists submitted their favorite recipes, and voting was conducted via Facebook. The winning concoction was the Cabana Boy Rita, sent in by Emily of San Diego, California. A refreshing blend of mango, tequila and triple sec, it will be served on National Margarita Day, and through the end of the month, at all Margaritaville locations in the U.S.
