Celebrate National Library Week with Friends of Fort Worth Library

Build your home library at the Friends book sale, or weed your library for donations!
2012 Patricia Cook

National Library Week is April 8 through 14, and the Friends of the Fort Worth Library are hosting events throughout the months of April and May in celebration. Events include a membership drive, book drive and book sale.

Members in the Friends group receive a 10% discount at the Friends Bookstore, access to members-only events and sales, and unique opportunities to help the library, including volunteering, fundraising, or donations.

In addition to the regular benefits of being a Friend, members joining the Friends in April will also be registered for a chance to win a Kindle Fire. You can fill out a membership form online, or pick one up at the Friends Bookstore, located at 5332 Trail Lake Dr. There are a variety of membership levels, each priced differently. Information about costs are on the membership form.

Since the library and the Friends Bookstore are all about books, books are always welcome and needed. The Friends book drive is being held on Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Books, audiobooks, and CDs in good condition will be accepted for resale at the Friends Bookstore. Because the bookstore is a non-profit organization, you will receive a tax receipt for your donation.

Saturday, April 28 is the date for a members-only tax-free book sale at the Friends Bookstore. A sale for the general public will be held from Friday, May 4 through Sunday, May 6 at the Chapter 2 Annex, located at 5318 Trail Lake Dr (just a little bit north of the Bookstore). With thousands of items, many under $1, you don’t want to miss this if you’re looking to build your library, or just stock up on summer reading materials. Sunday is $10/box day, and the boxes are provided for you. All you need to bring is your book list if you have one, your money, and your muscles.

There’s a $1 admission to the public book sale—but remember, it goes directly to the library, so it’s money well-spent!

If you’ve thought about joining the Friends of the Fort Worth Library, or were looking for a way to support the library, there’s not likely to be a better time.
