Celebrate National Hobby Month with your kids

"Mom, I'm bored." We hear that phrase probably too often in our homes. Since January is National Hobby Month, maybe this is the time to come up with some interesting ways to explore potential hobbies. It could even be a fun idea to start a "family hobby" and spend quality time together. There are exercise-related hobbies that would be a good way to stay healthy and fit. Hiking, walking, basketball, soccer, dancing are just a couple of suggestions for family hobby fun.

Kids always seem to look for someone else to entertain them. With a hobby, kids can plan and be creative on their own. Think of the sense of pride that comes from building on a collection or creating something artistic. Local craft stores offer plenty of options for exploring your creative side. Take the kids shopping at your local store and see what ignites their interest. Showing your kids that you are enthusiastic about hobbies can get them on the hobby hunting team too. Encourage your kids to make a hobby wish list and maybe you can make everyone month a "hobby discovery month."

Google can be a big help with finding ideas. YouTube is also another informative and comprehensive source of hobby ideas. If you want to try your hand with photography or cooking, there is sure to be a number of interesting and sometimes funny videos to get your family thinking about cool ways to spend your free time.
