October 30th is National Candy Corn Day. Just in time for Halloween, the brightly colored sweet treat has actually been around for over one hundred years. Back in the 1880s, George Renninger “invented” the colorful candy that resembles actual corn kernels. Today, more than 8 billion candy corn kernels are sold every year!
Originally made by hand, the traditional three-colored candy has a yellow base, orange middle and white tip. Today, candy corn is available in a variety of different colors and flavors. Reindeer corn, available for the Christmas season, has red, green and white colored kernels. Bunny corn, perfect for Easter, has pastel-colors. And just in time for Valentine’s Day, Cupid corn has red, pink and white colors. Brach’s has a rich and creamy Milk Maid Caramel Candy Corn made with real honey.
If you happen to have a sweet tooth but are counting calories, no worries. Brach’s Candy Corn has 140 calories per serving and is fat-free.
