Both the Palm Springs community and Hollywood have been throwing down the red carpet to celebrate the life and career of one of Hollywood's most gifted stars. And you can be part of this celebration. This coming Tuesday, Jan. 15 you can attend a dinner and discussion at Melvyn's Restaurant at the Ingleside Inn and meet Loretta's oldest son Christopher and his wife Linda. The dinner begins at 6 pm and includes a 3 course gourmet dinner for $65 (prepaid amount).
At the dinner Christopher and Linda will show a documentary on the life of the Oscar winning actress and have a few mementos to share. It's a great opportunity to learn about the star that graced the silver screen and was one of the first to find success on television.
Last Sunday, June 6 was Loretta's official birthday and the family was on hand at the Palm Springs Historical Society, when Lee Weigel declared the day as "Loretta Young Day" and bestowed a proclamation to Loretta's son Christopher Lewis and his wife Linda.
Fans and celebrities were in attendance including the family of Lon Chaney Sr. and Lon Chaney Jr. Lon Chaney Sr. was the first to notice Loretta's talent and starred her in his film "Laugh, Clown, Laugh." And Lon Chaney Jr. starred with Loretta in several films during the 1930's.
The historical society had a very nice display of Loretta Young memorabilia, cake and drinks to boot. After the dedication ceremony, Christopher and Linda Lewis led a procession down Palm Canyon Drive to Loretta's star and everyone was invited to take the "Loretta Young twirl" on her star and leave a rose in memory of this illustrious star.
To refresh yourself with Loretta's films, Turner Classic Films will be airing Loretta Young film's every Wednesday evening in January. You might also catch a nice tribute by Marlo Thomas - who was Loretta's Goddaughter.
The Hollywood Museum on Hollywood and Highland in Hollywood, Calif. have an entire floor dedicated to Loretta Young. This exhibit is open to the public and will be on display until April 28.
