May 11 is National Public Gardens Day. Over 500 botanic gardens, arboreta, educational gardens, farm gardens, historical landscapes, zoos, museum gardens, and other members of the American Public Gardens Association (APGA) will be celebrating National Public Gardens Day across the nation.

National Public Gardens Day was developed by the APGA and corporate presenter Rain Bird in an effort to raise public awareness about the importance of public gardens.

In Massachusetts the following gardens are participating in the free admission program on May 11: New England Wild Flower Society’s Garden in the Woods (Framingham), the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University (Cambridge), the Botanic Garden of Smith College (Northampton).

In collaboration with APGA Better Homes & Gardens magazine is offering free coupons to encourage the public to visit.
