Our country's 234th birthday will be celebrated on Sunday, July 4th. Get out there and enjoy the parades, picnics, and Piccolo Petes. But be sure to read a book or two with a child to help them understand this important holiday. Children's fiction has a book for everything and the Fourth of July is no exception. Whether it's curling up on a blanket before the fireworks start or something you do to get the day started, take along one or more of these books.
Pippa at the Parade by Karen Roosa and Julie Fortenberry A toddler's picture book with sweet and simple rhymes, this book follows Pippa as she attends a holiday parade with her daddy.
Fourth of July Mice! by Bethany Roberts and Doug Cushman The holiday mice are back. This time they have a parade, a ball game, a picnic, and make a trip to the swimming hole all before watching the fireworks display.
Looking For Uncle Louie On The Fourth Of July by Kathy Whitehead and Pablo Torrecilla A south Texas parade for the Fourth of July is decidedly different than one in a northern state. Join with a little boy waiting for his uncle to arrive as he watches cowboys dance and listens to a conjunto band play the "Star Spangled Banner."
The Scrambled States of America by Laurie Keller Kansas wakes up grumpy, Nebraska is sick of hearing the two Dakotas argue all the time, and Minnesota and Florida decide to trade places. A fun-filled book that subtly teaches geography and history.
Divided Loyalties: A Revolutionary War Fifer's Story by Phyllis Hall Haislip Teddy isn't sure which side he is on. His father sides with the Patriots, his mother with the British. It gets to be strained at home so Teddy joins as a fifer. But has he joined the wrong side?

Fourth of July Mice would be lots of fun to read as long as no real mice show up LOL!
Thanks, I hadn't heard of these!
I always love your book recommendations!
Nice article!
This is a very nice article and the books are very patriotic - still somewhat debating on the talking state one, however, to read is to be informed. And I approve of this article.
