One of the best times to be on a bike last year was at the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival, where local artists showcased their movable talents. Last year's Kinectic Sculpture Derby offered a phantasmagoria of sights and sounds. What other parade boasts a gigantic octopus, a tiny dog, and the Statue of Liberty all on wheels?
This year organizers have promised free valet bike parking so there's no need to worry about finding a safe haven for your rig. The bike sculpture parade begins at noon and follows a route around Philadelphia's emerging Kensington neighborhood. Who will win this year's awards for Best Design? Or my favorite, the People's Choice Award?
Post-parade, enjoy food, drink and art courtesy of the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival, sponsored by the East Kensington Neighborhood Association. The parade is sponsord by the New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to revitalizing the East Kensington, Fishtown, and Port Richmond neighborhoods in Philadelphia.
Parade organizer Kathryn Doherty-Chapman expects this year's parade to be the best yet.
