Celebrate heart health in Sacramento this February

February is American Heart Month, a month-long promotion of cardiovascular health.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death in America, killing more than 600,000 men and women each year.   For almost 50 years, the country has observed American Heart Month with the purpose of combating cardiovascular disease through education, awareness, and life-saving research.  The Sacramento Branch of the American Heart Association is sponsoring several events this month to bring awareness to area residents, starting with National Wear Red Day on February 3.  This campaign aims to bring awareness to the fact that heart disease is the number 1 cause of death among women.  Here are some other events happening in support of American Heart Month:

Wear Red Day – Arden Fair Mall

Wear your red and visit Arden Fair Mall on Friday, February 3 from 11am to 3pm.  The Sacramento American Heart Association will be hosting the event that will feature free health screenings from Sutter Heart & Vascular Institute, Macy’s red lipstick make-up counter, shopping discounts, giveaways, and much more.

Macy’s Wear Red Sale

To honor American Heart Month and National Wear Red Day, Macy’s is offering discounts of 10 percent or 20 percent on various merchandise to anyone wearing red – from a whole outfit, to red lipstick, or the signature Red Dress pin – Wednesday, February 1 through Sunday, February 5.  Even if you don’t wear red, you can pick up the Go Red For Women dress pin for $2 at Macy’s and still receive special discounts.  All proceeds from pin sales go directly to the American Heart Association.

Walking Clubs

Walking is one of the best ways to keep your heart healthy.  This month, join or start your own American Heart Association Walking Club and connect with others who share your goals, lifestyles, schedules and hobbies.  The Sacramento area has several walking clubs, including Walking Sticks, Sacfit, and Sacramento Pole Walkers.
