Summer Glau, most known for playing River Tam on Fox’s short-lived but much-loved “Firefly,” turns 31 years old today (July 24)!
Summer Glau got her start with a guest role on The WB’s “Angel,” which was co-created by Joss Whedon. She then landed a starring role on his next big creation: “Firefly.”
“Firefly” only lasted one season, but its impact on pop culture is timeless. There was even a continuation movie, titled “Serenity,” made in 2005. Glau, along with the rest of the cast, reprised her role in the movie.
Afterwards, the actress recurred on several shows, including “The Unit,” “The 4400,” and “Dollhouse.”
Summer also starred on two other shows: “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “The Cape.” “Sarah Connor” lasted two seasons, while “The Cape” didn’t make it past one.
Additionally, the actress has appeared on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Chuck” (where she was reunited with former “Firefly” co-star Adam Baldwin), “Alphas,” “Cold Case,” and “CSI.”
Celebrate Summer Glau’s birthday by watching “Serenity” or an episode of “Firefly.” Before that, though, be sure to check out the slideshow at the top of the page, which is composed of 50 photos of the actress.
