Celebrate Earth Day at the Chattahoochee Nature Center

Earth Day Kids Fest at the Chattahoochee Nature Center is a wonderful way to celebrate Mother Earth and Earth Day 2011 in Atlanta. The annual event is celebrating its ninth year and it’s bigger and better than ever before.

There’s so much to do and see at Earth Day Kids Fest 2011 at the Chattahoochee Nature Center

  • Dance and move with Ritmo Blu as they drum up some world music.
  • Check out the Activity Zone, a “Recycle on the Run” interactive area where kids and adults can learn about recycling.
  • Meet pro golfer Aree Song and NASCAR driver Leilani Munter.
  • Meet and take photos with Captain Planet.
  • Check out the Captain Planet and the Planeteers cartoons in the Cowie Weiss Theater.
  • Learn more about Captain Planet’s Learning Gardens and plant your own seed!
  • Play “Recycle on the Run” with the Ovie Mughelli Foundation
  • Live Animal Presentations
  • Paddle a canoe on Beaver Pond
  • Face Painting
  • Go native by checking out plants that are adapted to Georgia’s weather and climate and purchase some to take home!
  • Take home some fresh veggies and locally produced foods from the Farm Mobile.
  • So much more!

Be sure to check out the Eco-Village where you and your children can learn about local organizations that are doing great things to protect the planet. Stop by each of the local non-profits for fun and exciting hands-on activities designed especially for kids! Find fair trade gifts, eco-friendly businesses, jewelry, kids’ items, and healthy food for the whole family.

Be a Planeteer! Bring your old cell phones, ink cartridges, natural corks, and old shoes to be recycled at the event!

The 411 on Earth Day Kids Fest at the Chattahoochee Nature Center:

  • Date: Saturday, April 16, 2011
  • Time: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Place: The Chattahoochee Nature Center at 9135 Willeo Rd.; Roswell, GA. 30075.
  • Cost: $8 adults; $5 children, kids 2 and under and bike riders are free.
  • Parking: Limited parking is available at CNC. Free shuttle bus service from St. Francis School on corner of Willeo and Azalea and Highway 120.

Note from Editor: My family has attended this wonderful event several times. It’s one of Atlanta’s finest Earth Day celebrations and definitely worth a trip to Roswell. Because there is so much to do and see, be sure to plan on spending several hours. If you haven’t been to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in several years, you’ll be amazed at the $10 M Discovery Center. It’s packed with hands-on learning activities for kids of all ages. Plus, the Nature Exchange is a big hit. Have fun, take your camera, and celebrate Earth Day 2011 at the Chattahoochee Nature Center. I guarantee, you’ll love it!
