Celebrate Black History Month 2014 with soulful sounds at BAMcafé Live. For select Fridays and Saturdays within the month of February, visitors can enjoy free live music and performances in BAM's Lepercq Space. Ongoing though June 2014, BAMcafé Live features rock, jazz, R&B, world music, pop and more. This February its all about soul. Here is a listing of BAMcafé Live February's schedule:
Saturday Feb. 8 - The winner of VH1’s “You Oughta Know” contest for emerging artists, Russell Taylor brings emotionally charged ballads. Since sharing stages with Mary J. Blige, Isaac Hayes, and Jill Scott, Russell Taylor comes into his own with the January 2014 release of his third album, "War Of Hearts."
Saturday Feb. 15 - The Soulfolk Experience- The veteran performing trio featuring lead singer Mariti Garrett specializes in acoustic sultry, mellow soul, and blended folk.
Friday Feb. 21 - Legendary saxophonist Eric Wyatt brings swinging, high-energy hard bop to BAMcafé. Wyatt has played and recorded with jazz notables like Wynton Marsalis, Robert Glasper, Jeff Tain Watts, and Kenny Garrett. Wyatt's band is comprised of Grammy-nominated pianist Benito Gonzalez, bassist Ameen Saleem, and drummer Shinnosuke Takahashihas.
Saturday Feb. 22 - Brooklyn's own singer and keyboardist Akie Bermiss brings his raw, soulful vocal of jazz, funk, and R&B to the audience of BAMcafé Live. Bermiss is considered a staple within New York's neo-soul scene.
Friday Feb. 28 - Beatrhyme Communications - Experience rhyming, scatting, beatboxing, sound poetry, and more from some of New York's most talented vocal artists and performers with BAMcafé Live Host: Phillip Andry and BAMcafé Live House DJ: DJ Idlemind “The Appropriate Agent."
