Celebrate Amelia Earhart in Atchison this weekend

Recently new evidence popped up in the decades-long search for Amelia Earhart’s plane. This weekend Atchison, Kansas, Amelia’s birthplace, celebrates her record-breaking achievements.

Start your weekend on Friday afternoon by brushing up on Amelia history with “Amelia” at the Library from 2:00 - 4:00. Friday evening at 7:00 pm, kick back and relax for an evening of music at Warnock Lake.

Saturday is chock-full of activities including a 2K/8K Run-Walk, a fly-in at the Amelia Earhart Airport and Breakfast with the Books. Amelia attended church at Trinity Episcopal and at 10:00 am, an early 1900s-style service will take place.

The Amelia Earhart Birthplace Museum is open for the day. A full list of events can be found at www.atchisonkansas.net or call 800-234-1854.

The event culminates with a 7:55 pm aerobatic performance at River Front Park and a Fireworks Finale after dark.

With all the fun activities in town, you just might not notice the heat quite as much.
