On July 22, 2012 Ceja Vineyards celebrated it's 11th anniversary with a big fiesta out of their main property off Las Amigas Road in Carneros, Napa. Club members, friends and family enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of amazing wines, freshly cooked paella and live mariachi music. From their humble beginnings in 1983 the Ceja name brand has grown to 12 distinctive wines, some of them recognized with numerous accolades and look after by it's great number of fans. In few months Ceja Vineyards will break ground with the construction of it's new winery building in Carneros adding another successful step to it's steady growth.
The Ceja family started as grape growers back in 1983 when they bought their first 15 acres of land by then in the less known region of Carneros. Later on the family purchased another 8 acres about 5 miles south-west of their original property, by 1986 both properties were planted with Pinot Noir. In 1989 they acquired 5 more acres adjacent their original 15 acres on Las Amigas Road and planted Chardonnay.
In 1996 the Ceja's purchased twenty acres off Arnold Road, near the town of Sonoma and also planted it with Chardonnay vines. The fourth lot of land purchased by the family came to be in 2000 with the purchase of 65 acres located on Adobe Road close to the city of Petaluma, here they grow Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah. They also manage 9 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Oak Knoll district of Napa.
With 120 acres spread into five different locations today Ceja Vineyards produce twelve different wines. A labor of suet and love is what you get when you open a bottle of Ceja Vineyards wine. Ceja wines show fruit upfront followed by layers of floral, spices, herbs, earthy and savory notes framed on a gentle touch of French oak and moderated alcohol content.
