CeeLo Green, rapper, songwriter, record producer, and celebrity coach on TV’s singing competition show "The Voice," pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles County courtroom on Oct. 21 to the felony charge of doping a woman’s drink with Ecstasy last year.
The 33-year-old woman who alleged that Green doped her, also accused him of sexually assaulting her after he slipped her the drug.
Green was instead arraigned yesterday on one charge of furnishing a controlled substance.
After Green pleaded not guilty, the judge accepted prosecutors' recommendation to set his bond at $30,000 and ordered him to return to court on November 20.
Reportedly, it was alleged that Green slipped some Ecstasy into his date’s drink on July 13 or July 14, 2012, and then afterwards took the woman back to her Los Angeles hotel where the rape took place.
The woman told the LAPD that she “woke up naked in bed with Green in her room.”
But in their statement Monday, prosecutors said they had declined to file a charge of rape of an intoxicated person, citing insufficient evidence.
If convicted on the sole charge of furnishing a controlled substance, Green could be looking at anywhere up to four years behind bars.
Green’s attorney issued a statement yesterday saying that his client will “responsibly address the drug charge in court and is pleased prosecutors decided not to proceed with the sex assault charge.”
