Today, Feb. 19, CeeLo Green appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to announce that he will be joining Lionel Richie on his upcoming tour. As Lionel, CeeLo, and Ellen DeGeneres continued to chat, Ellen commented that she would miss CeeLo on “The Voice,” and it was his second announcement that caught the talk show host and everyone in the audience off-guard: CeeLo revealed he will not be coming back to “The Voice” at all.

“I’m not coming back, guys,” he told the audience, who were all disappointed to hear the news. He shared that he will continue to work with NBC, the network that airs “The Voice,” since he currently has a television show development deal and some other talk show opportunities coming later in the year. CeeLo also added he hasn’t released an album in four years and wanted to get back to the music. He later put the message out to fans on his official website to let them in on his big news.

To wrap up their segment of announcements, CeeLo and Lionel Richie also revealed they had tickets for everyone in the audience to see them in concert.

Throughout recent cycles of “The Voice,” the show has rotated through judges – while Adam Levine and Blake Shelton remain mainstays, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green alternate seasons with Shakira and Usher. The upcoming season, slated to begin Feb. 24, features Usher and Shakira, so it was previously expected that CeeLo would be back around in Season Seven later this year.
