As patio season is fast approaching, in the past, it has become more and more difficult to pick where to gather with your comrades. Well, if you live in west Plano, there is a scene to be seen at Cedar's Woodfire Grill. From Rum-a-rita's to Smores fondue, this place is the perfect place to sit and mingle whether you are with your church group, (they have amazing local tea blends) if you are networking with some co-workers, or just to hang out with the family sans dish-washing.
Upon receiving the news of an exclusive interview and tasting with the owner, Laurie Curtis, this examiner had to find out what was so special about this place. When walking up to the restaurant, people are amazed at the indoor/ outdoor see-through fireplace. As they walk in, they pass along a Pei-Wei style of menu billboards, complete with a kids picture board. Kids stop and stare at the lovely pictures. Since the board is at their height, when mom asks they are able to point to a picture. This place is very family friendly.
"We give the little one's place-mats so that they can eat right off of a clean mat, instead of the table." Laurie Curtis Co-Owner of Cedars Woodfire Grill
When an order is placed, this place does something I have never seen before. They cook everything to the way it is specified by the customer. What I mean by this, is that if a person has an allergy, or needs gluten free, everyone changes gloves, and handles the food with extra care not to contaminate it. Also, everything here is farm to fork at prices under $10. That can't be beat!
Their menu consists of all natural chicken, atlantic salmon, and all natural steak. They claim that all of their meats have no added hormones or antibiotics, and the cheeses are freshly grated and never processed. This place cooks everything to order with an open grill hosted by Chef Scott Randolph. He makes sure that the daily fresh deliveries on all of their fruits, veggies, cheeses and breads are up to par. This makes a noticeable difference in their food quality.
"I like to order mine (the BBQ Bacon Wrap) skinny." Laurie Curtis Co-Owner of Cedars Woodfire Grill
When a person needs something on the lightest side, they order it "skinny". What this means is that they take their regular item, and take out the cheese, bacon, and substitute the reduced calorie dressing for the regular dressing. They have a text feature, where a person can text to 95495 for the nutrition content value of any dish while waiting in line. (If there is a line.)
A couple of menu items to stand by would start with the Pita Chips. Served with almost everything on the menu, these hand cut whole wheat pita chips are quite good. The appetizer order comes with a regular hummus, and a roasted garlic basil marinara sauce. Their California bowl is also really good. It comes with a wild rice, grilled summer vegetables like cucumber and roasted red bell peppers, bruschetta, tomatoes and a Parmesan cheese with a balsamic glaze. There is also a choice of chicken, salmon, steak, or baby bellas if requested.
"The slightly smoky flavor on the meat mingled with the sauce and the bacon well. It was delicious, and made my day." Troy Haigood Cedar's Newest Fan
The best item that is thought to be a real treat is the BBQ Bacon Woodfire Wrap. This wrap is awesome! Choose the steak, and suddenly you are whisked away to taste heaven. With applewood smoked bacon, steak, barbecue sauce, shredded cheddar, this wrap is sure fire the best one in Plano. I also must mention that if BBQ is not something you wanted, then try the Thai Grill Wrap. The Thai Wrap has a cucumber salad intermixed with grilled chicken that makes it simply delectable to nosh. They give quick service, too, as most of their dishes come out within five to ten minutes.
So, whether you are looking for a skinny dish, or just looking for an outside patio to crash, Cedar's Woodfire Grill in Plano off of Park & Midway is a definite place to check out. Their patio is comfortable, with a wood-burning fireplace. Come for the view, stay for the food.
