The East Coast hype: “Friday, July 25th, at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, undefeated welterweight Cecil McCalla is looking to transition his name from prospect to contender when he takes on Oscar Godoy as part of the 200th Episode of SHO BOX: The New Generation.”

Welterweight Cecil McCalla tipped the scales at 147 pounds while Oscar Godoy weighed in at 146 lbs. for their 8 round scrap at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, N. Y.

The show, which is set to air on the East Coast at 10 p.m. ET, will reach West Coast viewers at or about 7 p.m.

The 24 year-old, six foot tall Godoy (13-2-0, 6 KOs) from Watsonville, CA is coming off that mixed decision win over Victor “Sina” Fonseca at the Marconi Automotive Museum in Tustin, CA back in March 14, 2014. He will be facing 29 year-old Cecil McCalla (18-0-0, 6 KOs) of Randallstown, Maryland who last fought on April 18 of this year, a win over southpaw Antonio Chaves Fernandez (4-18-2, 0 KOs).

Godoy, who’s tag on Twitter is “Oscar_ AlPacino,” has two losses, a split decision loss to Anthony Wheaton in his second fight in 2010 and then on January 27, 2012, he got stopped by Joshua “Supaman” Marks of San Diego in the seventh round. Since that time, he has won nine straight and been super active. In 2012 he fought six times, thrice in 2013 and now this will be his second fight in 2014.

What’s up with the McCalla management team? McCalla, whose had 92 amateur bouts, has been boxing professionally for seven years and yet he hasn’t fought anyone of note. That’s one patient management team.

McCalla: "Godoy has some skill. He is tough but it is nothing that I haven't seen before and it should not be a problem.

"I am excited about being on television. This will be my first time of my career. I was helping out in the corner with (Former IBF Jr. Lightweight champion) Argenis Mendez a couple weeks ago, so I got to see some of what goes into a higher level fight so I know that experience will help me as I progress.

"I know that being on Sho Box is always a good thing and many fighters have gone on to fight and win world titles so hopefully that will be me in the next year.

"I am excited to get in there and will work hard and plan on putting on a good show," concluded McCalla.

With the above bout being a bit of a head scratcher, the rest of the fight card is packed top to bottom with good fighters. In the 10 round main event you have undefeated Antoine Douglas (14-0, 9 KO's) of Burke, VA taking on former world title challenger Michele Soro (23-1, 13 KOs) of France for the WBA International title.

Jerry Odom (11-0, 10 KOs) of Bowie, MD is set to face Vilier Quinoez (8-0, 5 KOs) of Miami, FL in an eight rounder for the Interim WBC FECARBOX Super Middleweight title.

And finally, you have Wanzell Ellison (11-0-1, 5 KO's) of Newark, N. J. taking on Tony Luis (17-2, 7 KO's) of Cornwall, Ontario, Canada in an 8-round lightweight match.
