The legendary Cecil B. DeMille made plenty of pictures in his time, and the most recent one to debut on Blu-ray is 1949’s “Samson and Delilah”. The biblical epic features the tale of the fabled strongman and the great beauty who seduces and betrays him. “Samson and Delilah” stars Victor Mature, Hedy Lamarr,George Sanders and Angela Lansbury.

The Blu-ray edition of the film is nigh’ devoid of special features, only boasting a high-definition version of the official theatrical trailer. That, however, isn’t much of a surprise given the film’s age and a lack of a massive following crying for a comprehensive edition. No, what really matters here is the transfer,

Paramount Pictures did an exceptional job of rendering the film in crystal clear high definition. The film was scanned in 4K and expertly restored to bring out the vibrancy of the Techicolor in which it was shot. So, when Samson takes on lions, struggles with giants, pulls down a temple and takes on legions of Philistine soldiers all on his own, he looks exceptionally epic and cinematic doing so.

“Samson and Delilah” is presented in full 1080p high definition with English Mono Dolby True HD, as well as French, Spanish and Portuguese dialogue tracks with subtitles in all four languages. The Blu-ray was released on March 11.
