Rihanna has become a fashion icon in her own right. She received the Fashion Icon Awards at the 2014 CFDA Awards. The sexy pop star is being recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, according to a June 2 article on Heavy.com.
Fashion designer Alexander Wang spoke about Rihanna's style:
"She brings so much ease and confidence to everything she does, and I love when she dresses down. It takes a lot of confidence for someone in her position to do that and step out in front of the public eye."
The CFDA wrote about the singer and performer receiving the Fashion Icon Award:
"The record-breaking recording artist, actress, and fashion designer will be recognized for her contributions to the fashion industry as well as her philanthropic partnership with the M·A·C AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign … The Fashion Icon Award is given to an individual whose style has made a significant impact on popular culture on an international stage. Rihanna joins the ranks of past winners such as Lady Gaga, Iman, Kate Moss, and Nicole Kidman."
There's no denying that she's influenced the fashion world. She's influenced other pop singers like Miley Cyrus and Rita Ora. Both were slamming for "copying" Rihanna's signature style.
Rihanna is also responsible for four hot trends: printed coordinates, the chambray shirt and jeans, shirt tied around the waist and sport jerseys as dresses.
It seems like this singer has become well-known for her fashion rather than her music. She looks effortless and put together, no matter what she wears. She certainly takes a lot of risqué fashion risks, but she's still revered by designers and stylists alike. Rihanna has a style all her own that can't be copied, but she has the confidence and sexiness to pull it off.
