A third US based cruise ship is reported to have been delayed this weekend, due to an oubreak of what the Centers for Disease Control said might be caused by a norovirus outbreak.
This time, it was the Royal Caribbean ship "Voyager of the Seas" which was affected. Earlier, we reported of an outbreak on two Princess Ships, the Ruby Princess and the Crown Princess, both of which sail from Port Everglades in Florida.
UPDATE: Late Sunday, Princess revised numbers upward on their two ships. A combined 499 persons were reported stricken, up from around 200 previously reported.
The CDC had alerted Louisiana authorities on Friday that the ship might have an outbreak onboard. The CDC did not give details as to the number of persons who were ill, but a New Orleans television station later put the number at around 200. The ship holds approximately 3,100 passengers.
The ship was evidently scrubbed and sanitized, as it was delayed in leaving the port on Saturday by at least two hours.
The norovirus is a particularly nasty sickness which develops quickly across the closed environment of a cruise ship, and causes vomiting and diarrhea.
The CDC gave no update on the status of the ship upon sailing.
