CDC report on flu: 41 states report widespread activity; 18 children dead (Video)

Thursday, as the flu moved quickly around the country 41 states have reported widespread activity and it is spreading more quickly than it has since 2009; the reported cases of the flu this year are more severe than it was last year, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention.

The flu season official started on October 1. In the last week of December, 31 states were added to the widespread list, according to the CDC report. An update will be issued Friday about the flu from the CDC.

So far this flu season, nationwide 2,257 hospitalizations have been confirmed with the flu virus and 18 children have died.

In Boston, Mass. 700 cases of the flus have been confirmed and that is ten times more than all of last year’s flu season.

Health officials are urging people to get their flu shots as soon as possible.

A new rule is emerging at hospitals (from Massachusetts to Utah) around the country which states that if an employee has not been vaccinated with a flu shot then they must wear a face mask while caring for a patient.
