It is strongly possible within the next few years, the New York State Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) will make having a CDA (Child Development Associate) credential, for all child care providers and child care facilities (daycare centers also), mandatory. The CDA is advanced child care training for providers and teachers who teach and/or care for children. It enables the recipient to provide a more structural and professional form of child care for the children in care, as well as enhancing relationships with parents and improving confidence for those who work with children.
Having a CDA can advance yourself to other areas of child care such as; director, group leader and/or assistant teacher. It is recognized by all forty-nine states as well as the District of Columbia. A CDA credential can be applied towards other areas of training such as health and safety and child development training. A CDA credential can also be used for additional college credits.
