You have all heard of being closed minded . Judging a book by the cover and all the rest of the everyday clichés that we are inundated with over and over .When I was a teenager and thrash metal was starting to get popular I will be honest .Unless you were Metallica, Megadeth or Anthrax I just didn’t generally care . I would go over my friend Aaron’s house and he had all the latest bands CD’s and told me to listen them but I didn’t .It didn’t matter that he had Annihilator posters on the walls , T Shirts and was going to see them in concert I was just to good for them , I was above that I was a Metallica Fan ( Pantera was not out yet ) Well I am no longer 15 and I do not know everything anymore and I was wrong .Yes wrong , because this album is amazing .This has everything from thrash to absolutely beautiful melodies in it . Let just see how much I was wrong by diving head first in this CD .
The album starts of with “ Deadlock “ .A text book example of thrash metal with aggressive guitars and powerful lyrics but what I took for granted was the finely honed musicians behind it . The solo was well thought out with a hook of a chorus added some unique twists . Up next is “ Now Way Out “ a eerie song with horror film imagery that’s burst into quick rocking song . I see this being played on movie soundtrack .Can a thrash song have groove ? I say yes! The song “ Smear Campaign “ is a heavy song with a tight groove that emphasis people trying to control and influence others . It also has a pretty cool bass bridge in it along with a punk feel at parts . “ No Surrender “ opens up with a bass riff and groove that would impress Motown but is metal enough for the toughest of fans. When we get to “ Wrapped “ Danko Jones makes a guest appearance in writing the lyrics and doing some vocals . The song itself is a just a good heavy rock n roll song . Slowing things down a bit we get to “ Perfect Angel Eyes “ The beautiful acoustics guitars and melody along with the vocal harmony is a shock and a pleasant surprise . Like I said never judge a book by its cover . Getting back to the heavy we have “ Demon Code “ a good song with unique change ups and hooks . I hope to see this band play this live someday . We all have one of those days once in a while where we have “ To Fight The World “ The song starts out all pretty and nice and soft like a hallmark commercial and bursts into a WWE Monday Night Raw death match . Not many lyrics but amazing musicianship . The last song on the album is “ One Falls , Two Rises ‘ The bass line at the opening along with the seriousness of the lyrics really touches one soul . The raw power of the guitars really makes this song complete . This is probably the most radio friendly song on the record .I give this album 4 and ½ stars out of five . The amazing cover artwork was done by Gyula Havancsak. Annihilator is Jeff Waters-Guitars/Vocals,Dave Padden-Vocals/Guitars,Mike Harshaw-Drums and Alberto Campuzano -Bass.
