The CCSU lockdown has been lifted but not before a scary ordeal emerged for the students and faculty at this Connecticut university campus in New Britain. Shortly after noon on Monday, students reported seeing a man on campus carrying a gun and a sword, according to the Hartford Courant on Nov. 4.
The Central Connecticut State University went on lockdown. Text messages were sent out to everyone on campus directing them to “shelter in place.” The students and facility were told to look all doors and stay away from the windows until further notice.
The campus was searched and a couple of hours later a man with an orange shirt and camouflage pants was seen in hand cuffs being led off campus by the police. The authorities then lifted the “shelter in place” order.
It is reported that the man was held up in a room in the James Hall dorms, but no gunshots were fired and no hostages were taken. According to reports, James Hall had a number of floors evacuated during the time police were negotiating with this man to come out.
School authorities did a good job at making sure everyone on campus was aware of what was going on. The authorities came with two SWAT teams, who searched the campus. No further information has been released about the reports of a man being taken into custody. Very little details have come from police at this hour.
While the lockdown at Central Connecticut University has been lifted, police still have the parameters of the campus blocked off and are asking that people not come to the campus. This scenario of a man with a gun on campus is one that is getting just too frequent around the nation today.
Connecticut resident are still mourning the mass shooting of school children in Sandy Hook right before the holidays last year.
