Four time CONCACAF Champions CF Pachuca made their debut in the champion’s league with a 4-1 thrashing over Honduras’ Real España at the Hidalgo Stadium to kick off their participation in the North American competition. The Mexican side is looking to return as a protagonist in the CONCACAF Champions League 2014-15 since winning the 2009-10 edition.
Pachuca Coach Enrique Meza took the tournament with seriousness, fielding most of his best players for the continent’s top competition. Colombian Aquivaldo Mosquera returned to playing with the Tuzos but had a bad night scoring the opposing team’s only goal.
The home side was superior on the pitch doing as they pleased against their Central American rivals. This led to overconfidence and many wasted opportunities for the locals. Argentine Ariel Nahuelpan being the one with the most missed shots.
Erick Gutierrez scored a double for the Tuzos, scoring the first goal in the 22nd minute of play off a center from Dieter Villalpando. The second goal came from Hirving Lozano off an assist from Nahuelpan in the 27th minute. The game entered halftime with Pachuca leading 2-0.
It didn’t take the Tuzos too long to get the third goal. Gutierrez pierced the net in the 53rd minute for the 3-0. Pachuca was in full control of the scoreboard. Four minutes later, Nahuelpan would redeem himself with the squad scoring Pachuca’s final goal for the 4-0.
Mosquera returned to Pachuca and was participating in his first game with the squad when his debut was ruined with an own goal. The defender attempted to the clear the ball that entered goalkeeper Oscar Perez’ net for the final 4-1.
Real España will host Guatemala’s Municipal at the Francisco Morazán Stadium in their next match. Pachuca will travel to Guatemala to take on Municipal at the Mateo Flores Stadium.
