Club America of Mexico took an early lead against CD Comunicaciones at the Cementos Progreso Stadium in Guatemala City in their second game of the CONCACAF Champions League but could only walk away with a point from Central America. Both teams reach four points in group 8 with the Mexican side leading on goal differential.

It took five minutes for America to break the net. Ecuadorian Michael Arroyo took a shot that goalkeeper David Guerra attempted to clear. However, Oribe Peralta was attentive to the play and sent the rebound into the back of the net for the 1-0.

The local goal came at the 33rd minute when Carlos Figueroa took a shot from long distance that hit defender Erik Pimentel. The rebound landed in front of Roland Blackburn who executed goalkeeper Hugo Gonzalez to close the gap 1-1.

America had several opportunities to get ahead throughout the game but had no luck. Guerra was the factor in keeping the Mexican squad from breaking his net once more. The game would end with the 1-1. The Guatemalan side still needs to play at the Azteca Stadium.

America will travel to Puerto Rico to take on Bayamon FC in their next champion’s league game. Comunicaciones will also travel to Puerto Rico to face Bayamon FC.

Tuesday’s games:

NY Red Bulls 2, CD FAS 0

Saprissa 3, Real Estelí 0
