No freedom-loving American would ever expect to hear a respectable, albeit formerly respectable journalist laud the President of the United States for expressing his intentions to commit ‘Crimes against the Constitution’. It happened today.
Bob Schieffer, in his infinite wisdom, actually compared denying and/or restricting our ‘Right to bear Arms’ with passing civil rights legislation, killing Osama bin Laden, and defeating the Nazis. Phrases that come to mind include, ‘Mouth-piece for the President’ and ‘State-run Media’. Mr. Schieffer actually said, “This is one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard him [Obama] deliver, but it’s going to take more than that from the White House. He’s [Obama] going to have to get his hands dirty.”
Whatever do you mean, Bob? At no time were Presidents’ FDR, LBJ, or Obama committing any crime against the Constitution when they defeated the Nazis, passed civil rights legislation, or killed bin Laden - respectively. Members of Congress and each President acted within the limits of the Constitution in the aforementioned events. Congress declared war against the Nazis and FDR signed the declaration. Congress passed civil rights legislation and LBJ signed the bill. On September 18th 2001, Congress enacted into law the ‘Authorization for Use of Military Force’ (AUMF) which President Bush signed in response to al Qaeda’s attack on 9/11. President Obama was still acting under the authority of the AUMF when he ordered the killing of bin Laden.
Who are you calling a Nazi, Bob? First, the Nazis used propaganda and the ‘Greater Good’ argument to demigod lawful gun ownership. Second, the Nazis enacted strict gun control laws by Executive Order. Third, the Nazis confiscated all firearms from its citizens. Sound familiar?
A little free advice for Bob Schieffer: If you feel the need to opine about historical events on National TV, please get your facts straight. We all know you’re nothing but a lap-dog for President Obama, just don’t be a historically ignorant lap-dog.
