It looks like CBS is a huge fan of Dr. Sheldon Cooper and the crew. In a surprising move Wednesday, March 12, 2014, CBS announced their intention to renew the popular comedy "The Big Bang Theory" for not one, but an additional three seasons with the network. The series will air on the network through the 2016-2017 season.

"The Big Bang Theory" was due for renewal this year and no one doubted the ratings giant would return to the network in the fall. The series has seen its highest ratings yet this season and shows no signs of slowing down.

Contract negotiations are currently in process for the series' young leads, including Jim Parsons (Dr. Sheldon Cooper,) Johnny Galecki (Dr. Leonard Hofstadter,) and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting (Penny.) It seems a safe bet to conclude they'll sign on for the additional seasons.

"The Big Bang Theory," which debuted on CBS on September 24, 2007, revolves around the lives of Dr. Sheldon Cooper (Parsons,) Dr. Leonard Hofstadter (Galecki,) and their friends: Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and his wife Bernadette (Melissa Rauch,) Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar,) and Sheldon's girlfriend Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik.)
