CBS renews 'The Big Bang Theory' through 2017

On March 12 CBS shares that they have renewed the hit comedy "The Big Bang Theory" through the 2016-2017 year.

"The Big Bang Theory" is CBS' hit comedy that has brought in over 19 million viewers each week. The show has been critically acclaimed and won several awards since it started airing in 2010. This is the first time that CBS has chosen to renew a show for longer than a single season.

Nina Tassler, the chairman of CBS Entertainment says that they are delighted to continue their partnership with Warner Bros. Television and the multi-year deal only strengthens that partnership. She concludes by saying that the network is proud to be working with the great cast, Chuck Lorre, and Steve Molaro every week.

Comedy is CBS' biggest claim to fame with shows such as "2 Broke Girls," "How I Met Your Mother," and of course, "The Big Bang Theory." Each year during sweeps, there is always a will they or won't they question of what gets renewed and what doesn't and now fans can rest assured that their favorite nerdy comedy won't be going anywhere for a while.

Do you think this was a smart move on CBS' part?
