If you tuned into CBS last night expecting to watch a new episode of The Mentalist and hopefully see some real movement in the Red John plot line (over five years in the making), you were sorely disappointed, however, if you like to spoilers, and can't resist finding out what happened, you can go to Youtube and find out the answer to one big mystery, because they forgot hold out on the roll out of the promos for episode 7. Do not click on the video if you do not want to be spoiled.
The episode was yanked when a football game went even longer than the network had planned for, and the powers that be decided not enough eyes would watch a show that would not end until nearly midnight. What they did not take into account was that a series long mystery is finally wrapping up and people really would like to see that resolution.
The response was not positive, as evidenced by the replies to a similar post on the show's Facebook page. Fans suggest everything from posting the episode on line (not likely, it as already been moved to next Sunday), moving the show back to Thursday nights, and even suggestions that perhaps 60 Minutes should be expendable.
Ryan Pominville probably had the best response though:
Red John probably rigged it.
New programming, even during a sweeps period is going to lose out to the ratings juggernaut that is football, but perhaps the network could rearrange the schedule so that hour long dramas are not impacted, probably not though.
