CBS news report: Teenage girl fights caught on tape on the rise (video). Last week, two videos of teenage girls fighting were placed online and have had several thousands of page views.
The girls who watched one of the fights and didn’t stop it have been charged with felony counts of cruelty to a juvenile. One of the girls who appeared to be more of a bully and started the fight has also been charged.
CBS News reported on the story Tuesday morning and said that although statistics are not available yet, experts see a growing problem with teenage girls getting violent.
The first video showed up on YouTube over a week ago from Baton Rouge, LA. And in the video it appears that two adults are watching the fight take place. A few days later, another video appeared online from Lowell, Massachusetts. In the video, the girls are being cheered on from onlookers.
Gerry Leone, the district attorney of Middlesex, Massachusetts said that local educators were reporting that 80% of school fights are now girls against girls. And the girls being videotaped get a lot of attention and that only encourages other girls to fight.
The CBS report stated that many parents need to teach respect to their children, and that they will be held accountable.
A Utah group called Bullying is Bull goes to junior and high schools to speak to students about why bullying is bad. Another Utah company, called Report Bullying has speakers who come out to local schools to speak about the problem.
