The "NCIS" franchise is headed to New Orleans for the newest installment of the CBS hit crime drama. Starring Scott Bakula, this highly anticipated series will be the second spin-off for "NCIS" and will feature scenes shot in New Orleans. On Wednesday, New Orleans hometown news source, the Times Picayune dished on the next big thing to hit the Crescent City.
"NCIS: New Orleans" is slated to fill the 8 p.m. time slot for Tuesday nights on CBS. If this version is anywhere near as good as the original, it is guaranteed success as "NCIS: New Orleans" will air immediately after the wildly popular "NCIS" and just before "Person of Interest." CBS is going heavy-handed on the Tuesday night drama series' where many other networks opt for comedy that night.
The announcement was made on Wednesday morning as part of the annual Upfronts where each network releases information about the pilots that will be ordered for the upcoming fall 2014 television season.
Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap) will be leading the New Orleans NCIS crew. If successful, this will be Bakula's first long-term recurring role since "Men of a Certain Age" but he is best known for the lead in "Quantum Leap" as well as his role in "Star Trek: Enterprise." Bakula is a television icon and from the looks of the trailer, he should fit right into his new role.
Although some of inside shots were filmed in Los Angeles, "NCIS: New Orleans" will be filmed in the city so look out for shots of many recognizable New Orleans landmarks. No doubt, CBS and the "NCIS" crew will capitalize on the familiarity of the French Quarter, the Garden District and many other very distinct locales that make the city so special.
