"How I Met Your Mother" fans know that their time with the gang is about to come to an end, since season nine is the last for the show, but the end is going to be coming a lot faster than many expected. On December 19th, CBS announced via a press release that the finale date for the comedy would be in March, long before May sweeps.
While a comedy of this caliber, one that has grown in ratings over the course of nine seasons, doesn't need a May finale to draw a crowd, this announcement is a bit of a surprise to some. As Michael Ausiello of TVLine optimistically reported, "The good news about the show’s winter exit? This probably means fewer, if any, repeats!"
That's because "HIMYM" will still air a total of 24 episodes for the season, despite the finale date of Monday, March 31. CBS also announced that the finale will be a full hour long, and that it'll be the 208th episode of the epic comedy. But it's still anyone's guess how exactly they'll end the show between Ted and the still unnamed mother.
After "How I Met Your Mother" ends, "Two Broke Girls" will move into its time slot, and the new comedy "Friends with Better Lives" will take over the 8:30 ET spot.
What do you think of this early finale date? Are you excited for the finale, or do you wish the show wouldn't end?
