CBO sharply contradicts White House claim that the rich pay less tax than others

Barack Obama and the Democrats in Congress would have us believe that the rich don't pay their fair share of tax. Then they tell us that the government should tax the rich more, to make up for this claimed inequity. But the facts belie their claims.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reports that "the share of tax liabilities increases with income." Let's rephrase that, so everyone can understand just what that means. The wealthiest taxpayers pay more federal taxes as a percentage of household income, than do any other group - substantially more, in fact. (See the above chart from that CBO report.)

Look at the phrase, "as a percentage of household income." That's key to understanding taxes, in general. You see, the White House and congressional Democrats claim that federal taxes disproportionately hurt the poor, since federal taxes represent a larger "percentage of household income" to the poor than they represent to the rich. But as the CBO numbers prove, that is just not true and hasn't been true any time in the recent past.

So the question that this raises is, "Are Barack Obama and congressional Democrats completely ignorant of this published report that came out of their own CBO?" Did they start making grandiose, but completely incorrect statements, before they had the facts. Or did they know that what they were saying was completely incorrect?

I'm not here to judge. But I will point out a few things that you might want to consider in making your own judgement.

1) There are only two possibilities. Either they were aware of these facts or they were unaware of them. It's that simple.

2) If they started shooting off their mouths, before establishing the real facts, then that's proof that they're incompetent.

3) If they were aware of these facts, then what they were saying was a bald-faced lie. (Once again, I'll point out that I'm not here to judge.)

4) The most important point to consider is that the two primary traits that should disqualify any person from holding office are that he is either incompetent or he is a liar.

The CBO has laid out the real facts, supported by solid collections data. You've been told the exact opposite by the White House and congressional Democrats, with no support for those statements, whatsoever. Therefore, it could be either incompetence or lies.

So you decide… Actually, you don't have to decide. That's because it doesn't matter whether they're incompetent or lying, since either should disqualify them from serving in any elected position.
