CBC launches new digital music platform

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) announced the launch of CBC Music on Monday. The news comes after the recent landmark music licensing deal reached between the 75-year-old public broadcaster and Audio-Video Licensing Agency (AVLA).

CBC Music is a free new online music service that provides listeners with access to millions of Canadian and international songs through 40 web radio stations; 14 genre-based communities featuring blogs, news, opinions, videos, and concerts on demand; music from almost 1,000 major and independent music companies; and 30 podcasts and programmes.

CBC Music currently offers a promotional space to more than 25,000 independent musicians. Each Artist Page includes songs, videos, a bio, photos, a concert calendar, and more. Listeners can easily like their favorite tracks, share them on Facebook and Twitter, and add them to playlists.

“CBC Music successfully connects Canadians with music when and how they want it, and provides an unmatched experience for music lovers across the country,” said Chris Boyce, executive director of radio and audio of CBC English Services, in the press release announcing the launch of the platform. “As a modern public broadcaster, we're proud to bring this rich digital experience to Canadians, using the knowledge, content and extensive music collection that only CBC can offer.”
