Cavern Club in Liverpool commissions large Beatles painting to honor Fab Four

July 21, 2011 - It has just been announced that The Cavern Club in Liverpool has commissioned an 8-foot square painting of The Beatles to adorn its walls. The artwork will pay tribute to the four lads who made it the most famous club in the world. The club has hired famed Beatles artist SHANNON, named the “The World's Greatest Beatles Artist” by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool, to do the painting.

Titled Toppermost of the Poppermost¸ Shannon said it will be made up as "four interlocking paintings portraying each of the Beatles during their last appearances at the Cavern Club." The very last performance was August 3, 1963.

According to Shannon, “The first painting will be of George Harrison and will be created in New Jersey; Ringo Starr will be created in Florida; John Lennon will be started at the Ultimate Air Affair in Utah. The last painting, of Paul McCartney, will be created LIVE in Liverpool at International Beatle Week this summer. The completed painting will be unveiled there on August 30th.”

Shannon has now received a new title - Official Artist of The Cavern Club, and was inducted into The Cavern Club Hall of Fame.  Her artwork was the official backdrop of the ‘Lennon Remembered Concert’ at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on December 9, 2010. Shannon’s art is also featured throughout the Hard Day’s Night Hotel in Liverpool.

Liverpool has done much in recent years to pay homage to its favorite sons. The new Museum of Liverpool just opened on July 19th this week and houses many interesting Beatles items (see article here); down the street is the Beatles Story Museum. You can visit Paul McCartney and John Lennon's childhood homes and take tours to visit Beatles spots. Mathew Street, where the Cavern is located, is full of shops and pubs devoted to the Beatles.

Congratulations to Shannon!
