Cauliflower has fantastic health benefits

There have been aggressive initiatives to better educate the American people about the vital importance of good nutrition for good health. People in Syracuse are being encouraged to eat less unhealthy foods at the many fast food places in town and to eat more fish, fruit and vegetables. New news adds cauliflower to the list of unusually nutritious vegetables.

In a newsletter from The George Mateljan Foundation on cauliflower it has been stated that cauliflower should be included as one of the cruciferous vegetables you eat on a regular basis if you want to receive the fantastic health benefits provided by the cruciferous vegetable family. It is advised at a minimum to include cruciferous vegetables as part of your diet 2-3 times per week, and make the serving size at least 1-1/2 cups.

The George Mateljan Foundation points out that there are several dozen studies linking cauliflower-containing diets to cancer prevention, particularly with respect to the following types of cancer: bladder cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, and ovarian cancer. Cauliflower is reported to provide support for three body systems that are closely connected with cancer development as well as cancer prevention. These three systems include the body's detox system, its antioxidant system, and its inflammatory/anti-inflammatory system.

Cauliflower is an excellent source of vitamin C, and a very good source of manganese. Cauliflower is also a good source of the antioxidant phytonutrients beta-carotene, beta- cryptoxanthin, caffeic acid, cinnamic acid, ferulic acid, quercetin, rutin, and kaempferol. The risk of oxidative stress in our cells is lowered by this broad spectrum antioxidant support.

The anti-inflammatory support which is provided by cauliflower, including its vitamin K and omega-3 content, makes it a food which is also capable of providing cardiovascular benefits. And the fiber content of cauliflower, with nearly 12 grams in every 100 calories, makes this cruciferous vegetable an excellent choice for digestive system support. Overall, cauliflower is simply has remarkable health benefits.
