Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship will be bringing the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of “Cats” to the high seas this fall.
The hit show was one of the longest running musicals on Broadway and is the winner of numerous awards including seven Tonys, two Oliviers and a Grammy. “Cats” has been seen in over 20 countries and translated into more than 10 languages. This big at-sea production will be a purr-fect addition to the entertainment options on Oasis of the Seas once the ship completes it’s dry-dock upgrades this fall.
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Royal Caribbean International’s Executive Vice President of Operations, said she is “……thrilled to be partnering with [Andrew Lloyd Weber’s] Really Useful Group to bring ‘Cats’ to Oasis of the Seas.” The current line up of Broadway musicals on board Royal Caribbean ships includes “Hairspray,” “Chicago,” “Saturday Night Fever” and “Mamma Mia.” Lisa added that these shows “… exemplify our commitment to bringing top quality entertainment to our guests at no extra cost.” What’s not to love about seeing a Broadway show for free, and enjoying a great fun cruise vacation at the same time?
The Oasis of the Seas features fun amenities and concepts throughout its seven themed “neighborhoods.” Passengers can enjoy experiencing the thrill of an 82 foot-long zip line, riding on a handcrafted carousel, having a libation at the Rising Tide elevating bar, watching the Aquatheater high-diving performance venue, and strolling through Central Park with more than 12,000 live trees and plants.
The mega-ship also offers activities and venues that can only be found on Royal Caribbean, such as twin FlowRider surf simulators, cantilevered whirlpools, an ice-skating rink, a kids’ aqua park, and the Royal Promenade - an interior boulevard that stretches nearly the length of the ship which is flanked by restaurants, lounges and boutiques.
Launched in December 2009, Oasis of the Seas has been heralded as an architectural marvel at sea, spanning 16 decks and with a double-occupancy capacity of 5,400 guests. These mega ships have a surprising amount of elbow room made possible by a collection of individually designed neighborhoods…. from stem to stern.
For instance, guests who want a peaceful oasis of health and beauty, the spacious Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center offers the opportunity to slow down and relax in a tranquil setting. Have a massage, a facial and a nap, and then sip a martini in the clean fresh sea air on the promenade before settling down in a plush theater seat to see “Cats.”
World renowned for its friendly and engaging service, Royal Caribbean has been voted “Best Cruise Line Overall” for 11 consecutive years in the Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards.
