On April 7, 2010 the Maryland Park Service announced a change to the pet policy. Eight parks that preveiously banned pets will soon provide access.
Changes will be implemented in two phases. The first phase is effective April 9, 2010. This includes pets allowed on a restricted basis, except Pickall. Hikers now have a variety of trails to enjoy with their dogs.
The second phase goes into effect either the day after Labor Day, or October first. Patapsco Valley Avalon, Orange Grove and Glen Artney areas will allow pets in all day-use areas from October 1 to April 30. The Hollofield area will allow pets in the day-use area after Labor Day to Memorial Day weekend.
Seven other state parks that originally prohibited pets will also be lossening restrictions. Check out the Park Service policy chart for pet access in all Maryland State Parks.
