Catholics on Long Island will experience the New York Encounter this weekend

This weekend all New Yorkers, including Long Island Catholics, are invited to experience the New York Encounter, Friday Jan. 18 thru Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Manhattan Center in New York City.

The New York Encounter’s theme this year is “Experiencing Freedom” held in the “city that greets the world with the ‘Statue of Liberty’ comprised of a weekend full of public discussions, exhibits, presentations, and live performances exploring the topic of freedom.”

Admission is free for the annual three-day public, cultural festival coordinated by the members of the Catholic movement, Communion and Liberation, and the Crossroads Cultural Center, which follow Pope Benedict’s theory that “the intelligence of faith has to become the intelligence of reality.”

The New York Encounter opens Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m., chock full of events and presentations, with Pure Afro-Cuban Juice closing out the weekend on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 9 p.m. To view the full schedule, click here.

Celebrate Mass on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m. during the New York Encounter with His Eminence Cardinal Edward M. Egan, Archbishop Emeritus of New York along with the Communion and Liberation Choir.

The Long Island Catholic Examiner will be on hand at the weekend-long event conducting interviews and experiencing the New York Encounter, ready to bring a full report to readers on Monday.
