Catholic nun turns all four chairs and stuns judges on 'The Voice of Italy'

Just as "The Voice (U.S.)" has completed its sixth season's blind auditions, "The Voice of Italy" has burst on the scene with its second season's blind audition rounds, and boy have they already discovered a shining star. Catholic nun, Sister Cristina Scuccia, became an overnight worldwide sensation when she turned all four chairs during "The Voice of Italy" blind auditions last week with her rendition of Alicia Keys' "No One."

Sr. Cristina auditions on "The Voice of Italy" as nuns react backstage at IL Centro di Produzione Rai, in Milano, Italy. Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

The audience roared and jumped to their feet just after the gifted sister delivered the first lyrics in her melodic and soulful voice. As Italian judges Piero Pelù, Raffaella Carrà, J-Ax and Noemi turned around one-by-one, they appeared visibly shocked at what they saw--a young nun wearing a habit and crucifix lighting up the stage with a rhythmic, soulful and upbeat performance. As the chairs started turning, a trinity of sisters watching from backstage began jumping up and down in such a fit of excitement, it seemed one of them might lose her veil.

Upon finishing her audition, the audience began to chant “Sor-el-la! Sor-el-la! Sor-el-la! Sor-el-la!” This translates to “Sister! Sister! Sister! Sister!”

When the crowd finally calmed down, Sr. Cristina humbly introduced herself as a 25 year old Sicilian. She expressed she wanted to use her gift of singing to evangelize. The audience showed their approval by starting up their “Sor-el-la” chant again. Nearly every time Sr. Cristina finished responding to a question from the judges, the chanting started again.

When asked what the Vatican had to say about her audition plans, the young member of the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family responded that she hopes Pope Francis will now give her a call.

Judges J-Ax and Pelù teased Sr. Cristina into choosing one of them as her coach by stating she was the complimentary holy water to their devilishness. The judges further teased each other about who was the most diabolical-looking of the two judges.

When it came to making her final decision, Sr. Cristina chose the judge who turned his chair first, and is now installed on Team J-AX. J-Ax, born Alessandro Aleotti, is a tatted up Italian rapper, formerly of the rap group Articolo 31 featuring DJ Vito Luca Perrini. He looked visibly moved as the nun spoke to the crowd. He picked her up and swung her around in a strong hug after she announced he was her chosen one. Sr. Cristina's audition video has already received over 17 million views on Youtube.

"The Voice of Italy" airs Wednesday nights at 9:10 p.m. on the Italian Rai2 television network.
