Catholic contemporary singer and evangelist Mark Mattheiss has announced the date for the third semi-annual Mission Immersion week. The August 18, 2011 announcement was posted by Mark Mattheiss on Facebook following the success of Mission Immersion week II in July 2011, detailing not only the Mission Immersion III dates but also announcing other related events.
The Mission Immersion week III will run January 2-9, 2012 and, like the previous two mission immersion weeks, will be run by the Gratia Plena Evangelical Community, a lay community at St. Antoninus parish in Newark NJ.
Missionaries who attend will start the day with community prayer, then proceed as a group or in teams to engage in missionary work; the idea is by being immersed in the Catholic culture and prayer, the missionaries can then go out and spread the hope to the people they minister to. Work usually varies per day, with visiting a nursing home, street outreach, volunteering at soup kitchens or similar places among the sites visited. Missionaries generally stay at St Antoninus and meals are offered; a donation for the week helps offset costs.
