Kathryn Ronk, 29, of Birmingham, Michigan, a former Spanish teacher at Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights, a suburb of Detroit, was charged on June 25 with five counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, according to Fox News in Detroit. If convicted, each of those felony charges has a maximum sentence of life in prison. Ronk turned herself in to officials at the Madison Heights Police Department on Wednesday and was promptly arraigned and charged, after being accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a teen student from her school.

Police allege that the former teacher perpetrated “multiple acts of sexual penetration with a 15-year-old student.” She was released later in the day on Wednesday after posting a $50,000 bond.

USA Today shared that, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Madison Heights’ Deputy Chief Corey Haines, police began looking into Ronk’s extra-curricular activities following a complaint filed by parents of a male student from Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights on May 16. The complaint was filed along with the cooperation of the school’s president, the Rev. Gerry LeBoeuf.

Haines added that Ronk was terminated from her teaching post at Bishop Foley shortly after the complaint came to light. She had been teaching at the suburban Detroit Catholic high school since August 2013.

The school’s president isn’t commenting any further on the sexual misconduct charges, except to refer reporters to the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese in turn released word to parents about the allegations and that the unnamed teacher was no longer employed at the school. Ronk doesn’t even appear on the Bishop Foley High School website any longer.

Allegedly, according to police, the sexual activities between Ronk and the student from her Spanish class lasted from January through the end of April. Reportedly, the two had sex right in Ronk's classroom. Some of their encounters took place during the school day during breaks in her teaching schedule, while some encounters occurred in her classroom after the formal school day had come to an end. The police chief added:

"According to our investigation, this was a combination of actual sexual intercourse and other sexual acts."

“Ronk is married and has no children.”

Ronk was ordered by the court to wear a GPS tether tracking device. She’ll be back in court on July 9 for a preliminary hearing.
