After a year away from the red carpet as a couple, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have stepped out as a couple at long last. Yahoo! Celebrity posted on April 16 that the couple who haven’t been seen attending a red carpet event since last year attended one for pal Steven Soderbergh on Tuesday.
The couple stepped out to attend the opening of “The Library” at New York City’s Public Theater. The 44-year-old star looked fabulous, showing off some curves and some cleavage in a long black dress while her 69-year-old husband looked dashing in his tieless suit. The couple also appeared to be happy together which is good news for friends, family and fans.
The last time the couple was seen together at a red carpet event was for the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award Gala last April 22 nearly a year ago. Just one week after that appearance, People reported that the “Reds 2” star had checked herself into a health care facility to seek treatment for her bipolar disorder. Over the summer, Douglas and Zeta-Jones separated in order to spend “some time apart.”
During that time, Zeta-Jones remained mum on the subject of her marriage. Douglas made an appearance on “The Tonight Show” in October and expressed hope.
"Sometimes people take a little bit of a break, but it doesn't necessarily mean that's the end. I'm very hopeful."
It would seem the couple has indeed been working on their marriage. Shortly after that message of hope, they were seen in public together, first with their kids last December in Manhattan, then on a New Year’s ski trip in Canada and finally, they attended the Super Bowl together.
Whether or not the reunion is permanent at this point remains to be seen. The couple keeps their personal lives very private. We wish them nothing but the best as they traverse the choppy waters of marriage in the public eye.
