Another Hollywood couple has separated, according to CBS News’ affiliate WTVR-TV. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are reportedly taking a break from their marriage to evaluate their relationship. The news was confirmed to CNN by a representative of Zeta-Jones. The Zeta-Jones representative said that they are taking some time apart to evaluate and work on their marriage.
The couple who will mark their thirteen wedding anniversary in November, have had their health battles in the recent past. Three years ago, it was determined that Douglas, who is 68 years old, had cancer. By 2011, he had overcome his medical concern. Then Zeta-Jones, 43 years old, went public in April 2013 about her bipolar II disorder of which she received treatment. It was the following month, reported by People magazine, that the two decided to separate – sometime after Douglas returned home from the Cannes Film Festival.
The couple met at the Deauville Film Festival in France in August of 1998 when they were introduced to one-another by Danny DeVito. In March of the next year, they started dating. On New Years Eve of that year, they became engaged and were married at the Plaza Hotel in New York eleven months later.
Neither Zeta-Jones nor Douglas have filed for divorce or have sought a legal separation at this time – but they are separated. They have two children: a son named Dylan, 13, and a daughter named Carys, 10.
