Facebook did it. Amazon might do it. Well now Caterpillar is doing it. When you think of Caterpillar usually heavy machinery comes to mind. Well, now heavy duty phones are the new thing for this successful company. Whereas Smartphones used to come strictly from the big names such as Apple, Android, and recently Windows and Blackberry, we are now starting to see a lot of outside organizations take the stage in Smartphone technology. It may be obvious the demographic that Caterpillar is manufacturing these phones to…probably the same people that by their equipment such as working young and older adults that primarily work in the construction field or just have plain dirty jobs. This demographic would love this phone because Caterpillar has used the latest and greatest technology to make this phone as indestructible as can they could.
Caterpillar provides two phones the B15 and the B25. The B15 is a fully operational touch screen Smartphone that is waterproof, drop-proof, and dust proof. This device even allows for touch screen capability with the use of wet fingers! The Gorilla glass and rubber encased aluminum exterior make it bounce almost like a ball when dropped and virtually impervious to breaking or scratching up to 1.8 meters high. The B25 would not be considered a Smartphone since it lacks the capability of internet and gaming apps to make it more interactive. This would be strictly a phone purposed device.
Now this phone is not for the faint of heart. This phone may be able to withstand some incredible punishment on the exterior; it does not provide the BEST available interior. It comes standard with the lasted 4.1 Jelly Bean Android Operating System running on a 1 GHz dual core processor. It comes with 4 inch screen and a 5.0 megapixel rear facing camera. The standard memory size is 4G, but the memory can be increased up to 32G with the addition of micro SD cards. In addition, the phone itself weighs in at 170 grams.
Overall, this is a great phone for those who find themselves in some messy situations, but if you plan to be on your phone a lot regardless of your work environment this may not be the phone for you if your goal is performance. If, however, you want a really good phone that won’t break on you out in the field, then the Caterpillar B15 might just be the next phone for you.
