Shonda Rhimes is all about keeping it in the family. When "Grey's Anatomy" returns in the fall there will be more than one Dr. Shepherd at Grey Sloane Memorial Hospital. Caterina Scorsone, who plays Amelia Shepherd the sister of main character Derek Sherpherd, will join the cast of "Grey's Anatomy" as a series regular when the show begins its eleventh season in the fall.

The announcement is the first casting news for the ABC hit series since it was announced that Tessa Ferrer and Gaius Charles would not be returning next season. The series also lost a long term cast member when Sandra Oh departed the series during the season finale in May.

Scorsone previously starred as Amelia on the "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff "Private Practice" for three seasons until it ended in January 2013. The addition of Scorsone's character should bring a different dynamic to the Seattle based drama. Amelia is a recovering drug addict that has a complicated relationship with her brother and has previously suffered the loss of a child and the death of her boyfriend due to an overdose.

"Grey's Anatomy" will also be changing time slots in the Fall. Due to the addition of another Shonda Rhimes series "How to Get Away with Murder", both "Grey's" and "Scandal" will move up an hour.

Scorsone's previous acting credits include the TV series "Missing" and "Crash." She will also have a role in the upcoming spy thriller film "The November Man" starring Pierce Brosnan this August.

"Grey's Anatomy" returns in September on ABC, Cox Cable channel 5 at 7pm.
