There will be a critical need for officials this year as many officials who did not officiate frequently are not renewing their licenses due to new continuing education and criminal back ground check requirements. It is not a matter of if but when an event will have to be cancelled or officials assigned from very far away because local officials are not available.
There is no cost for the course. Initial license fee of $35 must be paid after passing the exam. You must then request the criminal background check be done through your USAC account page (cost varies - $20-80). No CE required for new officials. NYSBRA will reimburse the cost of your original license fee and CBC after you work 3 races. (Promoters can also receive grant money for using new officials.)
